Error #1440 OLE exception error. Exception code c0000005, OLE object may be corrupt.

Applies to: PastPerfect Online add-on for Version 5.0

This error indicates that one of the registry files needed for creating files is not properly registered with Windows.

If you receive this error when attempting to create files for your PastPerfect Online site:

  1. Return to the Main Menu.
  2. Click Setup | Workstation Settings.
  3. Click "Register DLLs."
  4. Check "Imaging" and "Zip Compression", and click "Register DLLs Now."
  5. If the RegSvr32 screens end with the word "succeeded", try to create your files again in the Web Publishing Wizard.
  6. If the DLL registration fails, make sure the currently logged in user in Windows has Administrative privileges and, if you are using Windows Vista, 7, 8/8.1, or 10, be sure User Account Control (UAC) is temporarily disabled and try registering the DLL again.

If you cannot register the Imaging and/or Zip Compression DLLs or if you continue to receive the error after the DLL registration succeeds, please try to install our free evaluation software and then try to create your files again.

  1. Close PastPerfect.
  2. Visit https://museumsoftware.com/pp5eval.html.
  3. Fill out the short form on the page and click "Submit".
  4. Click the "Download" button and wait for the file to download.
  5. Run the installation file (pp5eval.exe).
  6. Leave the default settings for the evaluation installation.
  7. Once the evaluation is installed, you do not need to open it. Simply having it installed on your computer should be enough to resolve this error.
  8. Return to the Create Files screen in your PastPerfect program, and click "Create Files Now".
