It is possible to put a PastPerfect Online site into a frame or an iframe on your main website; however, we do not recommend frames due to the limitations and challenges that they add. Here are a few of the big things you should consider:
- Visitors would only see your one static URL as they navigate through the site. They cannot rely on the browser’s back button since that controls the whole page. Your web visitors would not have an easy way to bookmark or share specific pages.
- If a visitor uses the built-in Email a Friend form to share records or if someone clicks a link to your PastPerfect Online records from a Google search result, the link will go directly to the PastPerfect Online URL and they will not be brought to your main website at all. There is not a way to have your PastPerfect Online records appear in the Google index without going to the direct PastPerfect Online URL.
- Some visitors may have security settings in place that do not allow them to use frames.
- PastPerfect Online includes a built-in responsive design to optimize visitor experience while on devices with smaller screens, e.g., smartphones. Depending on how the frame is set up, you may need to add custom CSS to enhance or alter this functionality to fit your frame.
- Some users may experience issues with web accessibility when using a frame.
- Creating the frame on your main website must be done on your end and is not something we can help with or do for you.
If you decide to use a frame, we recommend having a link or statement outside of the frame so users who have trouble, can link directly to your PastPerfect Online site outside of the frame. You may also want to include a page banner on your PastPerfect Online site so users who access the site outside of your main website will know that the PastPerfect Online site is still associated with your organization.
